OLF PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

COVID-19 Requirements

The OLF Preschool program is open for in-person instruction for the 2020-2021 school year. Until further notice, we must comply with the following guidelines for safe operation:

  • Students cannot bring backpacks or share toys to school.
  • Students must wear rubber-soled sneakers or tennis shoes every day. Their feet will be sprayed with disinfectant upon entering campus.
  • Full-day students who will nap must bring a brand new crib-sized sheet in its original packaging. School staff will regularly launder sheets.
  • For Preschool students, masks or face coverings are recommended but not required.
  • All Preschool parents and guardians doing drop off or pick up must wear a mask or face covering at all times.

Our Program

The OLF Preschool Program operates on the same calendar as the K-8 school, typically from early August through May. The Preschool is closed for the months of June and July.

We accept students ages 3 through 5. Students may enroll in the Preschool program mid-school year, upon turning 3.

For instruction and most activities, we divide the children by age—grouping the 3-year-olds in one classroom and the 4 and 5-year-olds in another classroom. All children gather for outdoor play and some activities.

Licensed Child Care Facility

The OLF Preschool is a licensed Child Care Facility operated in compliance with the State of California's Department of Social Services.

Our Facility

Our preschool facility includes a classroom building and age-appropriate outdoor play area separate from the school's K-8 playgrounds.

Schedule

Our 3-year-old students may enroll for:

  • 2 days per week (Tuesday/Thursday);
  • 3 days per week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday); or
  • 5 days per week (Monday through Friday).

Our 4 and 5-year-old students must enroll for:

  • 3 days per week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday); or
  • 5 days per week (Monday through Friday).

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate requests for different weekday combinations. Families must choose from the above options.

Instructional time is from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For additional fees, we offer extended care as early as 7:15 a.m. and as late as 4:30 p.m. Please see our Tuition Schedule.

Daily Schedule

A typical morning in our classrooms includes:

  • Check-in and free play
  • Circle time with interactive learning and singing
  • Small groups
  • Centers, when students navigate the classroom in small groups to work with teachers, enjoy our class library, create art projects or engage in dramatic play
  • Morning snack
  • Outdoor play

Some students depart at 11:30 a.m. Those remaining have:

  • Lunch time
  • Free play
  • Nap time
  • Afternoon snack
  • Inside learning

Potty Training

Students must be potty trained and wearing underwear (no diapers or pull-ups) before joining our program.

Food

Included with your tuition, we provide all students a mid-morning snack. Students joining us for the afternoon must pack a sack lunch and are provided an afternoon snack. OLF occasionally makes hot lunch available for purchase and preschool students may participate.

Preschool Dress Code

Preschool students are not required to wear uniforms. Please review our Dress Code.

School Fundraising

Preschool parents are generally exempt from OLF Parent Club participation and fundraising obligations. But Preschool families may be asked to sell certain items during the 2020-2021 school year (e.g., raffle calendars or event tickets). Please check back for more information. Preschool families are exempt from OLF's K-8 Scrip requirements.

WE MAKE LEARNING FUN!

Faith-Based Teachings

Faith-Based Teachings

Faith-Based Teachings

Catholic prayer, worship and teachings are part of our daily instruction. Preschool students typically

attend OLF school mass at least one Friday per month.

Technology

Faith-Based Teachings

Faith-Based Teachings

Using the Brightwheel app, we send parents regular updates and photos from our school day. We also love the apps Seewaw and Epic for activities and reading.

STEAM Activities

Faith-Based Teachings

Artistic Creativity

We are excited to now be incorporating STEAM-based lessons into our  curriculum. Students will enjoy science experiments, building and engineering projects and math activities.

Artistic Creativity

Artistic Creativity

Artistic Creativity

Creating art is a cornerstone of our Preschool program. Students have many opportunities each day to draw, color, paint and create other craft projects—showcasing their imaginations while honing fine-motor skills.

Show and Tell

Artistic Creativity

Show and Tell

Every month, each student is assigned

a day to bring an item from home to share with the class. For many, this is a favorite moment of the day that promotes sharing, confidence and early public speaking skills.

Celebrations

Show and Tell

With a mini Halloween carnival, Thanksgiving feast, Christmas and Valentine's parties and student birthdays, we have plenty to

celebrate in Preschool!
